Our Values

We believe that beauty and wellbeing are symbiotic, and that these cannot exist without working in harmony with nature. We use sustainable, high quality natural materials, ethical craftsmanship, non-toxic dyes and processes resulting in a warm and honest aesthetic that supports human and ecological health.

We strive To not only use sustainable materials, but also to use regenerative materials and processes. Our products are designed to be used – and to last – but our responsibility doesn’t end there. We consider every component of the product and packaging right to the end of its life cycle to ensure that they are fit for purpose, and that each element be recyclable, reusable or home compostable. We are not perfect. We are always learning. But our difference is that we do so with open minds and hearts, continually trying to find the best solutions for the health of our customers and the planet.

GOTS Certified Organic Cotton

The Global Organic Textile Standard is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
GOTS is a textile production certification that limits the use of toxic bleaches, dyes and other chemical inputs during the production process of textiles. It is internationally recognised as the toughest organic textile standard because it goes far beyond the farming process to include every step of cultivation and manufacturing. On certified organic farms no GMOs, artificial fertilisers or agrochemicals are used, with farmers using crop rotation and alternative methods of crop production. Organic cotton techniques replenish the health of the soil, the planet and its people. In addition, our cotton is up to 46% less emission-intensive than conventionally produced cotton.

Certified Fair Trade

Our bags are Fair Trade Certified, ensuring a conscious choice for a better world by purchasing goods that support the livelihood of others. Fair Trade Certified goods support responsible companies, good working conditions and, empowers farmers, workers, and protects the environment. Fair Trade Organisations specifically seek to work in partnership with marginalised and disadvantaged groups to help them overcome the serious barriers they face in sustaining livelihoods and in doing so reduces poverty by encouraging economic self-sufficiency. In addition they campaign for fair pay for the producers; safe and healthy working conditions; zero children exploitation; providing assistance in developing the skills of producers; and reducing environmental impact.

Hand Woven

Our lampshades are woven by hand in Australia using various sustainable plant fibres. This means each piece is one-of-a-kind, which we believe adds to its inherent beauty. Our handmade local manufacture contributes to a more ethical and sustainable world whilst also adding a warm, dappled light to your world.

Plant Dyed

Our carryall bags are hand dyed here in Australia, using food waste such as avocado pips from local cafes and pure plant extracts. This process involves preparation of the textile, removing the oils, waxes and residues naturally present in the fibre in a process known as "scouring". After this, the fibre has to soak in a natural mordanting solution that ensures the dye will withstand repeated washing and exposure to light.
Once the fibre has been scoured and mordanted, we then prepare the dye baths for various lengths of time depending on the desired colour. This lengthy process diverts food waste from landfill. No toxic or carcinogenic dyes touch the earth – or your skin.

FSC Certified

Our Japanese raffia paper lampshades are Forest Stewardship Council certified, an international certification guaranteeing that farmed products come from responsibly managed sources. They are an independent, not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation whose work helps to ensure we will have thriving forests for generations to come. FSC certified forests have to meet rigorous standards, meaning they are healthy, and benefit local communities as well as providing jobs.

Organic Hemp

Organic hemp is a superior textile. A part of our collective cultural and historical heritage for over 12,000 years. It was the first plant fibre woven by humankind. Today, the REPOSE napery collection is made from 100% organic hemp. Hemp fibre is the longest and strongest of all natural textiles, producing fabrics that stand the test of time. The more it is used, the softer hemp gets, hemp wears in not out. It is also resistant to heat, UV and light, improving its wear and increasing its longevity irrespective of whether it is tumble or line dried. Hemp has antimicrobial properties that enhance the health of your skin. Hemp fibres are naturally resistant to mites, moths, mould, mildew and bacteria and are hypoallergenic and anti-inflammatory.

Hemp cultivation uses less than half the water required to farm cotton. Unrivalled growth makes hemp an unrivalled biomass accumulator, absorbing up to 15 tonnes of CO2 per hectare within the 4 months it takes to grow 2.5 to 4 meters in height. Unrivalled growth also means hemp outgrows weeds and competing plants, so the herbicides and pesticides common to unsustainable farming are unnecessary to grow hemp. Hemp is the sole textile crop capable of nitrogen fixing and remineralising the soil, making the ultimate fabric that cleans and revitalizes the Earth. We believe that what is good for the planet is the natural choice because it is good for you too.
